Global2Local will be featured this weekend in Cleveland OH at the 6th City Tech Fest, set to go at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Naturally, we are excited about the event and love the networking opportunities as well as the energy these kinds of festivals contain. This particular tech fest is boasting the attendance of 150 small businesses as well as investors and representatives from large businesses looking for collaboration opportunities.
Why is a language services company at a meeting for technology companies? For starters, Global2Local is a technology based language services company. Although our industry supports large international LSPs, it also hosts many smaller mom-and-pop type translation companies. I am glad for this, I think there is room for both. I don’t feel it is a good thing when an industry becomes dominant by a few key corporations, allowing for little in the way of market entry.
Global2Local falls somewhere in the middle; we have come a long way to go and we have a lot of dreams for the future. We realize, however, that we must stay focused on technology, or we will be left behind. We need to know what is of interest to our clients, we need to be on top of market trends and world trends, and we need to know how to do our jobs more easily without sacrificing quality.
Because we are based out of Cincinnati, Ohio, in the heart of the MidWest, we see a gaping hole where there is a real lack of linguist trainings or translation technology trainings…………one of our goals is to change that. Especially from those of you in this area, what kind of trainings would you want to see? For those that live farther away, what kind of trainings would you pay money for? We don’t anticipate making our trainings terribly expensive, but traveling to any city for a week or two of training will cost money.
